  38.                                | adjust the "intelligence" of the
  39.                                | computerized players to a certain extent by

  41.                                | cards that have been played; however, you
  42.                                | can't do anything about the strategic
  43.                                | "intelligence". Nevertheless, the play is
  44.                                | good enough to be interesting and
  45.                                | entertaining.

  47.                                | the computer will play the other three hands
  48.                                | against you. The computer's play isn't very
  49.                                | brilliant, but it's still fun to play.

  73.                                | against the computer in four-handed
  74.                                | Pinochle. User selectable options include
  75.                                | auction or on-shot bidding and different
  76.                                | playing strengths. On-line help can teach
  77.                                | you the rules, and you can elect to let the
  78.                                | computer play while you watch.
  79. PINOC_MB.ZIP    72188  11-21-93  Pinocle Games 1.2 (Bruckner, Michael G.;
  80.                                | $15) offers three varieties of the classic
  81.                                | game: the standard game ("Basic") in which
  82.                                | you play with the cards that are dealt to
  83.                                | you, a version in which the highest bidder
  84.                                | places the four cards from a kitty into his
  85.                                | hand and discards four, and Pass, in which
  86.                                | the highest bidder calls trump and then
  87.                                | swaps four cards with his partner.
  88. DRWPOK.EXE      66256  03-05-93  Poker 5.7 (Gellman, Robert; $0) lets you
  89.                                | play five-card draw poker against the
  90.                                | computer. It allows you to open with
  91.                                | anything and to check and raise; however,
  92.                                | the only weakness we found is that you can
  93.                                | normally buy a lot of antes by betting high
  94.                                | after the computer has checked; its play is
  95.                                | not influenced by the fact that you did the
  96.                                | same thing 50 times before. The author has
  97.                                | attempted to thwart this strategy after we
  98.                                | reported it; however, Robert says: "General
  99.                                | pattern recognition in betting is extremely
  100.                                | complex and would require a major revision."
  101.                                | Nevertheless, we think this is an excellent
  102.                                | poker game and recommend it highly.
  103. FNPOKR1.EXE    328332  01-03-92  Friday Night Poker (Hyperware Software; $10)
  104.                                | is a hilarious animated game of 5- or 7-Card
  105.                                | Stud. Choose your opponents from among the
  106.                                | shifty gents named Gramps, Achmed, Geno,
  107.                                | Nasty, and Tex, or the lovely ladies Linn,
  108.                                | Marna, or Luu. If you're feeling really
  109.                                | brave, you can read a little biography on
  110.                                | each player. The players' thoughts
  111.                                | (sometimes off-color) can be displayed
  112.                                | during play, and there are many other speed
  113.                                | and display options available. The graphics
  114.                                | and playability of this game are excellent.
  115.                                | 640K, EGA/VGA, a mouse, and 1.5 meg of disk
  116.                                | space are required.

  120.                                | does not have graphics as fancy as some

  122.                                | training to play in the real world.

  124.                                | the world's fastest growing poker game
  125.                                | played in the annual World Series of Poker.
  126.                                | With this program you can set up many
  127.                                | scenarios and deal out thousands of
  128.                                | simulated hands, keeping a constant record
  129.                                | of how the hands went, which hand won,
  130.                                | whether it was ace-high, etc. You can
  131.                                | configure the game to include such realistic
  132.                                | features as blind bets, 0 to 2 jokers, and
  133.                                | can position yourself in any seat at a table
  134.                                | of up to 10 players. You can even pick a
  135.                                | starting hand and see how it does over the
  136.                                | long run.

  148.                                | quality game. You can set your opponents'
  149.                                | skills from beginner to expert, then play
  150.                                | real poker against them. The AutoPlayers
  151.                                | bet, raise, fold, and even bluff. You can
  152.                                | set the betting limits, antes, maximum
  153.                                | raises, players' stakes, etc. You can play
  154.                                | to improve your skills or just for fun.
  155. POKER1.EXE     187451  06-14-91  Poker Compiler (Workware Co.; $90) is a tool
  156.                                | for serious poker players. You can use it
  157.                                | just for playing poker against the computer,
  158.                                | but you can take it to a new level by
  159.                                | programming the strategy used by the
  160.                                | computer.

  163.                                | set of two card games, Poker and Hearts. The
  164.                                | poker game is five-card draw played against
  165.                                | the computer. The hearts game is two-handed
  166.                                | against the computer. Two-handed hearts is
  167.                                | not nearly as much fun as with three or more
  168.                                | hands because you know where all the other
  169.                                | cards are.
  170. TX_HOLDM.ZIP   122241  11-21-93  The Poker Program 2.1 (Wilson Software; $15)
  171.                                | lets you play Texas Hold'em against up to
  172.                                | nine computer opponents. The program
  173.                                | features a tutorial on poker in general and
  174.                                | on Texas Hold'em in particular. You can
  175.                                | select the number of opponents and their
  176.                                | playing strength. EGA/VGA required. Texas
  177.                                | Hold'em is the big money poker game of
  178.                                | choice for pro's. The tutorials are a good
  179.                                | introduction for poker beginners. Our only
  180.                                | complaint was that to see how you stand in
  181.                                | winnings, you have to go through several
  182.                                | menu selections. We would like to see the
  183.                                | remaining stakes for each hand displayed on
  184.                                | the main screen. Otherwise, this is a very
  185.                                | good rendition of the pro poker game.
  186. TEXHOLD.COM     50159  08-18-89  Texas Holdem Poker 3.1 (Martin, George; $5)
  187.                                | is based on the game Holdem as played in Las
  188.                                | Vegas. You play your hand and the computer
  189.                                | plays the eight other hands.

  191.                                | is a game of the classic draw poker against
  192.                                | computerized opponents. This is a fun, fast,

  218.                                | options, scoring history, easy/hard
  219.                                | difficulty levels, and more.

  325.                                | tastes. Other features include two
  326.                                | card-counting systems, an auto-play option,
  327.                                | running game statistics, play suggestions,
  328.                                | and much more. Requires 640K, 256K EGA or
  329.                                | better, and a hard disk.
  330. VPBLKJAK.ZIP   129790  11-19-93  Vegas Pro BlackJack (WorkWare; $33) is a
  331.                                | blackjack game for serious players. It
  332.                                | features on-line help, pop-up Tutor,
  333.                                | variable Strategies, etc. The game uses
  334.                                | extensively cross-referenced "hypertext"
  335.                                | Help so that you can run the program without
  336.                                | a manual.

  338.                                | blackjack program. It allows one to six
  339.                                | players, one to eight decks, and displays
  340.                                | the true count and the running count from
  341.                                | the popular and efficient High/Low count.

  365.                                | different card games. CM1 has Fantan,

  389.                                | play all the cards dealt to you plus those
